Co-Founders

Carolyn Rhodes

Carolyn was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and is still a Florida gal at heart. After meeting Jim in college, they married soon after graduation. While being a stay-at-home mom, she volunteered at church and the kid's schools, and during the school day she became a personal trainer in 1995. She had the opportunity to work as a Therapeutic Exercise Specialist while working for a physical therapy company, learning so much that she still uses today. Shortly after, she started her own business to train seniors in their homes for therapeutic exercise.  She became the Fitness Director at a large senior center, working with over 100 volunteers in 23 exercise classes each week and a fully outfitted fitness center after raising over $200,000 to furnish it. After Jim was diagnosed, Carolyn started the Parkinson’s program at the Senior Center beginning with Rock Steady Boxing Rocket City in 2016. She is now working with  Parkinson’s Dynamics full-time and works closely with Rock Steady Boxing International, the Davis Phinney Foundation, Parkinson’s Foundation, Parkinson’s Avengers and PD Association of Alabama.

Anne McKinley

Anne was born in Indianapolis and moved to Huntsville as a small child.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Montevallo and her master’s degree from Alabama A&M University.  She married David McKinley in 1982 and they have two married daughters and 3 grandchildren.

Anne spent most of her career providing therapy to children, but in 2013, after David was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, she started learning more about the communication difficulties affecting those with Parkinson’s. She, along with the Huntsville Hospital Parkinson’s Care Clinic, started providing Parkinson’s Voice Project® services for Rock Steady Boxing Rocket City clients in 2018. Anne has expanded the voice, cognitive, and swallowing program to include an additional 7 therapists on the SLP Team serving our Parkinson’s Dynamics Community, and programming including SPEAK OUT!®, Parkinson’s Choir and PARTÉ® - Parkinson’s Art of Expression.

Jim Rhodes

Jim grew up as an army brat. He spent twenty years in hospital administration in 5 nonprofit hospitals, was director of The UAH Family Practice Residency Program (now UAB) and then spent 20 years as the Director of Administration for a family-owned business with 65 million dollars in sales, training the 4th generation to take over the management of the company. He retired in 2019,  but has been a very active part of the management of Rock Steady Boxing Rocket City, and now Parkinson’s Dynamics. He and Carolyn have been married for 46 years and have 3 adult children and 2 granddaughters. Jim was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2016, and retired in 2019, but has taken an active part in the management of Rock.

David McKinley

David grew up in Huntsville. After attending Georgia Tech for a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, he spent 40 years in aerospace retiring in March of 2020.  He’s been married to Anne Conway for over 40 years and has two married daughters with three grand children.

David was diagnosed in 2013 with Parkinson’s when his wife Anne noticed stiffness in his right leg and right arm during their morning walks.  Anne immediately began researching treatments.  We acquired a neurologist at the UAB Movement Disorder Clinic.  In addition, David began attending RockSteady Boxing.  He became a certified coach and taught boxing fight skills camp for new boxers.
